Greengate Ranch & Vineyard has a history dating back to the 1800’s as a dairy farm, but is best known for its rise to international acclaim under the ownership of Jay and Dorothy Stream, who occupied the ranch from the 1950’s until 2012. The Streams bred world class Arabian horses after turning this majestic piece of land into a top notch horse facility. His international recognition popularized the ranch as it became home to world class Arabian events, extravagant galas and auctions attended by celebrities, royalty and luminaries from the Middle East who traveled half way across the globe to visit Greengate Farms.
Restoration
The property and all of its facilities were in need of substantial restoration when a local business man purchased the property in July of 2012. Through his vision, Greengate Farms became Greengate Ranch & Vineyard, LLC.
The barn structures were in need of immediate attention as one had partially collapsed. Both barns have been restored from top to bottom while maintaining their historic design, wood facing, and charm.
The two original homes on Greengate Farms have been completely taken down to the bare bones and renovated with the modern amenities and design to become beautiful vacation rentals. The Ranch House is a sprawling 6,000 square foot home sitting on the highest part of the ranch with 360 degree views including the vineyards and the Seven Sisters mountain range. The Carriage House is a three bedroom, two bathroom home with great room overlooking Greengate’s horse pastures. In August of 2016, a third home was built. The Vineyard Cottage is a spacious and serene three bedroom, three bathroom that overlooks the rolling vineyards below.
Our latest project was to preserve the history of the white-walled arena. In Spring 2017, the area was repurposed as our guest Pool Arena, including a heated pool and spa, bocce ball court, fire pit, and BBQ area. The original white arena siding remains as the pool and recreational area perimeter.
These vast improvements have allowed Greengate Ranch & Vineyard to once again gain recognition for its grandeur as a premier California Central Coast wedding and events venue and vacation rental destination.
vineyards
The Vines at Greengate Ranch & Vineyard were planted in April of 2013. Starting with none, we now grow a total 88 acres of premium wine grapes. With the help of Pacific Vineyard's expert vineyard development and management, we have five clones of Pinot Noir, two clones of Chardonnay and a single clone of Pinot Gris. The Edna Valley appellation has a global reputation for producing premium wine grapes, and our goal is to produce top quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes that are made into award-winning wines.
In 2016, Greengate Ranch & Vineyard became SIP Certified.
The SIP Certified designation assures that growers and winemakers are preserving and protecting the natural environment, treating their employees and community with care, and have sound business practices with a long-term view that protects both the present and the future.
